12/19/07 Main St.

Around 16:15hrs the Jewett City and Griswold Fire Departments were dispatched to 111 Main St, the Jewett City Savings Bank for a Fire Alarm. Chief Smith was first to arrive on scene with nothing showing and the building evacuated. Further investigation found a moderate smoke condition in the basement. Car 56 established Command, requested Lisbon ET-254 to the scene and the First Due Engine to stretch a line through the Ashland St. entrance. The fire was found in the Furnace room with no extension to the rest of the building. Companies remained on scene for approximately one hour. No injuries were reported and the Griswold FMO is investigating.

Mutual Aid to Lisbon 12/14

ET 1 made it's second trip to Lisbon in just as many days. 56 and the Taftville FAST were dispatched around 16:00hrs to Lisbon, 50 Kanahan Rd. for a Chimney Fire with Extension. After a quick knockdown by Lisbon, Mutual Aid was cancelled with the exception of ET 1 with the TIC. Crews remained on scene for a short time assisting with overhaul.

Mutual Aid to Lisbon 12/12

On December 12 ET 1-56, Ladder 1-56 and ET 2-56 responded Mutual Aid to Lisbon, 423 North Burnham HWY. for a Barn Fire. QV notified Lisbon Officers they were taking several calls. The crew from ET 1-56 went to work while the ET supplied Tanker 1-54. Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours.

2007 Annual Meeting

This years Annual Meeting will be held on Friday December 21, at 19:00hrs.

Past Incidents Part 1

In March of 2007 Rescue 4-56 and ET 1-56 responded to the area of 223 North Main St. for a Rollover with injuries. First arriving companies found one patient still in the vehicle, needing extrication. Command requested Griswold Rescue 4-55 for additional extrication equipment. The patient was pronounced on the scene due to their injuries, Companies held for awhile assisting Connecticut State Police with their investigation.

On August 24 around 17:00hrs Rescue 4-56 and ET 1-56 responded to this minor MVA on Ashland Street. Chief Smith was first on scene and found three vehicles involved with no injuries and no hazards. Members secured all vehicles and held the scene until all vehicles were removed.
On February 28, around 18:00hrs companies responded to Lilly Pond Rd. for a MVA. Companies arrived to find on vehicle with minor damage and no patient. Other officers in route found the patient walking on Route 12 about a mile from the MVA scene with facial injuries. Griswold Ambulance transported and ET 1-56 secured the vehicle.

Leo Poitras

The Jewett City Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Past President and Life Member Leo Poitras. Services will be held at Gagnons Funeral Home on Saturday December 8, 2007. All members are asked to report to Station 56 by 09:00hrs in Full Dress Uniform.
