12/19/07 Main St.

Around 16:15hrs the Jewett City and Griswold Fire Departments were dispatched to 111 Main St, the Jewett City Savings Bank for a Fire Alarm. Chief Smith was first to arrive on scene with nothing showing and the building evacuated. Further investigation found a moderate smoke condition in the basement. Car 56 established Command, requested Lisbon ET-254 to the scene and the First Due Engine to stretch a line through the Ashland St. entrance. The fire was found in the Furnace room with no extension to the rest of the building. Companies remained on scene for approximately one hour. No injuries were reported and the Griswold FMO is investigating.

It does happen at times, that is why Mutual Aid is automatic. It's a problem that many volunteer fire companies face everyday. Hopefully this problem can be rectified.
